Inside Line Promotions – LEXINGTON, Neb. (July 12, 2016) – Hot weather impacted not only the racing surfaces that Zac Taylor competed on last weekend, but his sprint car as well.
Taylor raced in a pair of United Rebel Sprint Series (URSS) 305ci sprint car events in Nebraska last weekend when the thermometer hit triple digits. Taylor said the tracks “took rubber,” which made passing very difficult.
“Those type of tracks separate the men from the boys,” he said.
On Saturday Taylor enjoyed a strong start to the evening at Lincoln County Raceway in North Platte. He ran second in his heat race and drove from seventh to third place in the dash.
“By feature time the track rubbered up pretty good,” he said. “I could get to the leader, but every time I got close the caution would come out, which kept him out of lapped traffic. With a clear track he would drive away.”
Taylor ended with a fifth-place result.
The weekend wrapped up on Sunday at Dawson County Raceway, where an overheating engine dropped Taylor to a last-place finish in his heat race and a deep feature starting position.
“I started 19th and got up to 10th and spun,” he said. “I restarted 21st and finished 15th. It was VERY hard to pass. If you got out of the rubber you were in trouble.”
Taylor will be back in the Todd Henry owned midget at I-76 Speedway in Morgan, Colo., this Saturday with the Rocky Mountain Midget Racing Association (RMMRA).
“We have been very good all year in the midget,” Taylor said. “With Todd’s knowledge and coaching, I’m always confident the car will be fast as soon as I strap in.”
