Dawson County Highlights

The racing was fast-paced and jam packed with talented competition in all classes during Pony Express Chevrolet Night at the Races at Dawson County Raceway in Lexington, Nebraska on Sunday evening.
Punching their ticket to the Coca Cola Winners Circle at Dawson County Raceway on Sunday were winning drivers that included Jordan Grabouski, Jacob Olmstead, Luke Wassom and Terry Tritt.
In the Holbein Lawn Service/K Lawn IMCA Modified Feature it was Jordan Grabouski of Beatrice leading the second half of the feature to score the victory. Grabouski started the feature on the inside of the sixth row and methodically worked through traffic using the cushion to his advantage to grab the lead on the ninth lap and be the first to the checkered flag to claim his second straight victory at Lexington. Team Crazy wheelman Jesse Sobbing made his first appearance at Dawson County Raceway in a modified. Sobbing of Malvern, Iowa started on the outside of the sixth row and was able to work his way through traffic to have a great runner-up finish, putting pressure on Grabouski during the late restarts of the feature. Anthony Roth of Columbus started on the outside of the third row and was able to challenge for a podium finish throughout the feature, as he found some moisture that worked well with his hot rod to finish third place overall. Cozad’s Colton Osborn was able to have a great finish to the feature by earning fourth place honors. Malcolm’s Magic Man Mike Densberger was the early leader as he led from lap 3 until the eighth lap when Grabouski earned the point. Densberger stayed up on the wheel to earn a top five finish for his efforts after starting in the third row.
Wasting no time in snaring the lead and never looking back, Jacob Olmstead of Overton was the victor in the Platte Valley Auto Mart IMCA Northern Sport Modified Feature. Olmstead started the main event on the inside of the second row and led all by the opening lap to cruise into the winners circle. Stalking Olmstead for much of the feature event was Devyn Peterson of Milford. Olmstead and Peterson separated themselves from the field for much of the contest. Peterson was able to start on the outside of the front row and stay within striking distance of Olmstead throughout the feature to earn runner-up accolades. Tyler Andreasen of Grand Island was able to stay out of trouble and be among the lead pack in the waning laps to finish third overall after finishing on the outside of the fourth row.
In a very competitive feature, Jordan Grabouski was up to his old tricks again, as he was able to work his way into contention and then grab the lead on one of the many restarts to score his second victory of the evening this time in the Levander Body Shop IMCA Stock Car division. Grabouski started the feature on the outside of the sixth row and was able to garner the lead on the ninth lap to then lead the last half of the race after leader Mike Nichols of Harlan, Iowa had mechanical issues and retired to the pit area. Challenging for the lead numerous times on those restarts and gaining ground on the leaders was Cozad’s Cale Osborn. Osborn came home in second place overall after starting the feature on the inside of the fourth row. Chris Heim of Hoxie, Kansas started side by side with Osborn and in the waning laps, both were in contention and earned a podium finish in third place. Kyle Pfiefer, Austin Brauner and Collin Heim were the heat race winners in early in the evening action.
Leading the laps that mattered the most was Awesome Luke Wassom of Broken Bow in the Overton Sand and Gravel IMCA Hobby Stock Feature. Wassom was able to overcome being involved in an accident near the midway point to lead the final two laps to win the feature. Wassom started the main event on the outside of the fourth row at the onset. Battling until the bitter end, Overton’s Zach Olmstead was able to apply pressure on Wassom in the waning laps that he was the leader after leader Jeff Ware unfortunately went to the pits, ending his night. Olmstead was able to stay up on the wheel and earn second place honors for his efforts. Displayed consistency throughout the feature event, Tyler Barribo of Grand Island was rewarded for his efforts with a podium finish in third place. Barribo started the featurein the fourth row and was able to bide his time and work through traffic with ease.
Putting on a dominating performance, Terry Tritt of York was the victor in the Plum Creek Motors IMCA Sport Compact feature. Tritt started on the inside of the second row and snared the lead on the opening lap and never looked back on his way to claiming the victory. For much of the feature, Justin Smallcomb of Gibbon was trying his best to keep pact with Tritt, he just wasn’t able to get past Tritt even though he had him in his sights throughout the main event. Smallcomb crossed the finish line in second place overall. Coming home in third place overall was Merle Johnson of Bertrand after starting the feature on the outside of the second row.
Racing action returns to the oval at Dawson County Raceway on Sunday June 16th, with the green flag slated to drop at 6 p.m.
